Handmade Christmas ornaments can be a great inexpensive holiday gift that your recipient will enjoy for years to come. I’m participating in a Secret Santa Blog Tour this year along with a few other bloggers, so I made these personalized DIY glitter ornaments for my friend Trisha of Black and White Obsession.
Be sure to not only stick around for the tutorial, but to see what my Secret Santa Jennifer Rizzo sent me (I’m amazed at her level of skill!). There will be a link to the tutorial of how Jennifer made my gift, along with tutorial links to every handmade gift in this Secret Santa Blog Tour at the end of the post.
Personalized Glitter Ornaments:
These DIY glitter ornaments are super simple to put together. You can actually have yours done in under five minutes! They’re also relatively inexpensive as far as handmade Christmas gifts and homemade holiday décor goes.
Another cool benefit of these ornaments is that they’re easy to update with your holiday décor scheme each year. Just pop the top of the ornament off, and swap the existing glitter for your new glitter color. I love that you can use these every year regardless of your color scheme and they won’t look out of place on the tree!
You will need:
- Clear Ornaments
- Chunky Glitter in your chosen color
- Letter Stickers
A few notes:
Glitter size: This is really up to personal preference! I think it looks best with chunky glitter since it will catch the lights from the Christmas tree better. But you can use fine glitter as well, you’ll just need more of it.
Mixing colors: I initially tried to layer black and white glitter since Trisha has a black and white obsession, but the colors became muddy because they eventually mixed. So I don’t recommend layering colors, unfortunately.
DIY Glitter Ornament Instructions:
Step 1: Remove the metal top from the ornament by squeezing it and shimmying it around. Prop the ornament on a surface that will allow it to stand without rolling (or risk getting glitter everywhere). I recommend using the lid to the glitter container.
Step 2: Roll up a piece of paper into a funnel shape (post-it notes work great for this!), then pour the desired amount of glitter into the ornament. I chose to fill the ornament about 1/4 of the way, but you can opt for more or less glitter. Then place the metal top back onto the ornament.
Step 3: Peel and stick your letters onto the ornament. You can simply use two or three letters o to create a monogram, or you can spell out the entire name like I chose to. If you’re opting for the monogram look, I recommend choosing larger letter stickers so it covers more surface area on the ornament.
And that’s it. Super simple, right? In just three steps and five minutes you’ve created your own personalized glitter ornaments to give as gifts or use as décor in your own home.
And now it’s time to share the gift that I received from my Secret Santa.
I received this absolutely lovely reindeer pillow from Jennifer Rizzo. I love everything about this pillow, but I’d have to say the gold reindeer is definitely my favorite element! Thanks so much, Jennifer!
