There are so many reasons why I love making soups and stews. Not only do I make them in the winter months, but I will also happily whip up a batch of soup at any time of year. So many soups are healthy and super easy to make too. Next time you are struggling with what to make, throw together some of these yummy soups. They are perfection in the fall but are also lovely when you are meal prepping or doing some batch cooking. Take a look at these tips to help you out:
🔪 Chop Meats And Vegetables
You should chop all of the meats and veggies, so they are bite-sized. You should never have to cut a piece of meat or a potato that’s in the soup already. This is an important step that shouldn’t be skipped, or you may have lumpy soup that is hard to eat.
🍛 Double Or Triple The Batch For Meal Prep
Soup is a terrific way to begin if you are a huge fan of meal prepping or just wanting to get started. Whenever possible, make a double or triple batch of the soup or stew then save it in the freezer. This saves you so much time when you need a fast last-minute meal or a light lunch that’s quick and easy. Most soups can be frozen, but be sure to look over each individual recipe to find out the tips and how to freeze it.
⏲️ Don’t Cook Your Soup Too Quickly
One of the reasons why soups and stews are so popular is because they are filled with lots of flavors. The best flavor comes from allowing the soup to cook low and slow. This lets the spices and seasonings really combine together to give you the best bang for your buck.
I know it’s tempting to turn up the heat to high until everything is hot and serve, but you will have a better result when you take your time. Some recipes are intended for fast and furious cooking, and that’s more than fine, but for the most part, slowly is better.
🍲 Add Noodles At The End In Most Cases
Check each recipe for the instructions, but in most cases, the noodles should be added towards the end. If you add them quickly or at the beginning, you will have trouble with the noodles breaking down and becoming mushy. No one wants to eat soup like that, so be sure to follow the directions precisely.
🥬 Give Soup Extra Flavor With Herbs
Add in some extra flavor by tossing in some of your favorite herbs. Whether you have an herb garden or just pick them up at your local market, they are a must-have. Not only do they make stews taste better, they give them a pop of color too.
🧀 Don’t Forget The Toppings
Many soups go well with a variety of toppings. They add extra flavor and sometimes crunchiness that is so good. Add sour cream, cheese, green onions, jalapenos, crackers, or anything else you want right on top of the individual bowl.
