How to Add More Vanilla Flavor
If you love the taste of vanilla like we do, there are a few options to add some extra flavor to the oats. You will already be adding vanilla extract to the mix, but here are some other options.
- Use vanilla almond milk instead of the non-flavored variety.
- Add vanilla greek yogurt.
- Scrape in some vanilla bean seeds
- Use a good strong, homemade vanilla extract like Savor and Savvy’s Easy Homemade Vanilla Extract that uses only 2 ingredients!
What Other Ingredients will Complement the Vanilla?
If you want to add a bit more punch to the Vanilla Overnight Oats, there are so many ways to jazz up the oats that you will never get tired of eating them. Try these options:
- Berries – strawberries, blueberries, raspberries or blackberries
- Chocolate – chocolate chips, chocolate shavings or even a bit of Hershey’s syrup
- Apples – chop up fresh apples or use baked apples as an extra bonus
- Peaches – cut up fresh peaches and add to the Overnight Oats. You can use canned peaches, but be careful of the sugar that is added in some of them.
- Bananas – slice fresh bananas
- Chia Seeds – always a great addition to any overnight oats
Another option for Vanilla Overnight Oats is to make them as the recipe states and add fresh fruit on top in the morning to make a breakfast bowl.
Are Overnight Oats Supposed to Be Soft?
Absolutely! They are incredibly soft and creamy. In addition, they are cool and refreshing on hot summer days. I eat them all year, though.
How to Make Vanilla Overnight Oats
As I mentioned in the Mocha Overnight Oats, these recipes are a meal preppers dream! They come together in about 3-5 minutes and you will have a healthy breakfast for the week!
Combine the oats, almond milk, yogurt and vanilla extract in a bowl and mix. I do not always use a 1:1 ratio when I use yogurt as there is a lot of moisture coming from the yogurt.
Place the oats in jars and cover. These can store for three days in the refrigerator.

Vanilla Overnight Oats
- 1 cup old fashioned oats
- 1 cup vanilla greek yogurt
- 3/4 cup almond milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Combine all the ingredients into a bowl. Stir gently.
- Divide into two pint jars and store in the refrigerator.
