2lbsMarinated Hanger Steakflank steak can be substituted, marinated to taste.
2Bell Peppersany color (I used yellow and red), thinly sliced
1 cupWater
12Hawaiian Dinner Rolls
8ozProvolone Cheesesliced (12 slices)
1tbspButter
1tbspCorn Starchoptional
Parsleygarnish
Instructions
Place meat, peppers, and water in the instant pot. Cover and close pressure valve. Set to high pressure for 10 minutes.
When finished, release the pressure valve and open the lid. Remove the meat and shred. Add your meat back to your Instant Pot. Turn the IP to the Sauté function and add the cornstarch to thicken the sauce.
Cut the dinner rolls in half. Add the bottom portion of the buns to a 8 x 8 baking pan.
Spoon the meat and peppers onto the buns evenly.
Cover with provolone cheese and set under the broiler set on high. This should take about three minutes for cheese to melt.
Once the cheese is melted, remove it and place top buns to cover.
Butter the buns and garnish with parsley.
Notes
Beef Choice: You will find a traditional Philly Cheesesteak is Ribeye. I used a hanger steak but you can easily use a flank steak as well. The key to a tender steak is making sure to thinly shred it or slice thin.Double Recipe: You can double this recipe and use a 9x13 pan. Cutting Beef: Make sure that you cut meat thinly or shred it for a nice texture to your sandwich. Cheese: Swap the provolone with mozzarella cheese or even Swiss. Onions + Mushrooms: Add in onions or mushrooms for added flavor to your cheese steak sandwiches. Chicken: This recipe could be made with shredded chicken in place of steak. Rolls: Kings Hawaiian has a sweet slider and also a butter slider. I find the butter sliders complement all the flavors of the steak and peppers nicely.
How to Use Air Fryer, Ninja Foodi, or Instant Pot Duo Crisp
Instead of broiling in the oven, you can use your air fryer or air fryer crisping lid. For the air fryer, place the sandwiches in the air fryer to toast the cheese. For the Ninja Foodi and Instant Pot Duo Crisp, since both are smaller, top the meat with cheese and use the crisping lid. Then spoon the cheesy mixture onto the rolls. The crisping lid will toast up the cheese just as the oven would in broiling.
