The start of the school year always comes with some bonuses. One of them is the classmate birthday parties happening at least every other week. Since I love multitasking, I wanted to make these celebrations more creative and thoughtful. These free printable birthday coloring cards for kids are just the thing for an easy, handmade gift that’s made with love!

There’s nothing like the kind of panic that sets in when your sweet child reminds you on a Saturday morning that their friend’s birthday party is in the afternoon. Let me tell you, I’m definitely not missing those frantic dashes to the store!
Having these cute birthday coloring cards on hand can be a lifesaver. It’s such a fun and easy way to personalize any gift, and your child will surely have a blast coloring them!
⬇️ Grab It Now
✔️Fill in your name and your best email address in the box below and hit the “Grab It Now” button. I’ll send the download link to the printable PDF directly to your inbox. Remember to check your spam or promotions folder just in case the email takes a little detour!
✔️Once you downloaded and saved the file, open it (use the free Adobe Reader or any PDF reader you prefer) and select ‘Print’. These cards are designed to print one per standard U.S. Letter page, so you likely won’t need to adjust any settings. If you’re using a different paper size, you can always change the type of paper or adjust the Scale setting in your ‘Print’ menu.
📌Tip: For sturdier and high-quality looking cards, I prefer printing on cardstock. I highly recommend you do the same!
✂️ Cut and Fold Your Card
Now for the final step to turn your paper into a real card! You’ll see dashed lines on the printable to guide you.
✔️First, cut along the dashed lines on the outer edges. A pair of scissors works just fine, but my savvy tip for perfectly straight lines with zero cutting skills is to use a paper cutter and a ruler.
✔️Next, fold the card in half along the dashed line in the middle. Crease it firmly, and you’ve got a perfect 5×7″ folded card ready for your little one to color!

📌 Tips For Making These Coloring Cards Extra Special
If it’s one thing my son and I were always struggling with was what to write inside these cards.
💬 Message Ideas For Birthday Cards
We always strived for a special message but no one is creative all the time so here are some ideas to get you started:
- Wishing you a super fun birthday!
- I hope all your birthday wishes come true.
- So happy to celebrate you today!
- You always make me laugh.
- Thanks for always being a good friend.
- I’m so glad we’re in the same class this year.
- I can’t wait to eat cake with you!
- Your party is going to be so much fun!
- I hope you get lots of cool presents.
- Being [age they are turning] is going to be great!
Another easy method for coming up with a heartfelt birthday message is to ask your child:
“What is one thing you really like about your friend?”
Help them write that down and refine it if needed. This is always a great starting point for some of the most authentic messages.
For Toddlers & Preschoolers – For the little ones, the coloring is the message! Just let them enjoy the coloring and maybe let them sign their name, even if it’s just a precious scribble.
🎨 How To Make Your Birthday Cards More Creative
Now comes the fun part! These are coloring cards, it’s true, but it doesn’t have to be just coloring. There are all sorts of ways to decorating them more creatively, or doing other surprising things.
⭐Glitter is your friend – And other decorative items too. Think small pom poms, beads, feathers, confetti, and the list goes on. It will make the card even more special and also a lot more fun for your little one to put together!
⭐Don’t forget the envelope – You know what they say: a plain white envelope is a missed opportunity! (Or do they?🤔). Let your child put a few fun stickers or even draw fun doodles on the outside to make it exciting before it’s even opened.
⭐A photo surprise – Spencer loved printing a small photo of him and his friend and tape it inside the card. It turns it into an everlasting memory that’ll surely end up in the keepsakes box!
