Spring and summer tends to lead me to leaving the blender out on the counter for morning smoothies! We eat them on weekends and as a treat when we want something cold to drink. Summer smoothies are so versatile that you can pretty much add anything to them and come out with a successful recipe. What is your favorite?
All three of these smoothies are pretty straight forward! All of the ingredients go into a sturdy blender and blend well. Each recipe made two smoothies.
π Meal Prep
- Remember the smoothie prep recipe that was posted forever ago? This is the perfect way to prep this!
- If you donβt want to freeze the fruit, cut it up the night before and put in containers for the following morning so itβs a dump-and-go recipe!
- I know it is a given, but I do set out all my kitchen items like the blender and spatula the night before. It just cuts down on the stress of the morning by doing a two minute job the night before. I even get out my drink container that Iβm going to use. Anything at all that will make this as quick as possible to get out the door with minimal stress.
- Make ahead and freeze the smoothie. Take the smoothie out of the freezer the night before and it should be perfect for drinking on the way to work! The best part of this is you can make a weekβs worth on Sunday and just grab and go! Donβt forget to take it out of the freezer the night before.

π₯€ Where Can I Get Those Smoothie Containers?
Shhhhhh! These are throw away plastic cups from fountain drinks at Wegmans! Seriously, look closer! Iβm all about recycling when I can. I used these seven times before they died. Hand washing them helps them last a bit longer.
β Can I Add Protein Powder?
Yes! Scoop your favorite protein powder since there these smoothies are not protein based.
π₯₯ Can I Add the Pulp from Coconut Milk or Almond Milk?
Absolutely! We did and it was unbelievably delicious! We made homemade coconut milk and used the leftover pulp for this smoothie. The coconut really infused the flavor in the tropical smoothie recipe and took it to a whole new level. If you love coconut, give it a try. So good!
π₯¬ What Other Add-ins Can I Use?
- Think of adding chopped nuts in your smoothie. It will puree along with your fruit and will give you a boost of protein.
- Add homemade tahini to your smoothies. You will get a real cool nutty flavor and a dose of protein.
- Add coconut on top or even add it in the smoothie itself. A little bit of sweetness from the coconut will go a long ways.
- Chia seeds are great addition to smoothies. You see them in yogurt or overnight oats a lot but toss a tablespoon in smoothies for a bit of omega 3, fiber and iron.
- Spinach is one of my favorite ingredients to add into smoothies. You canβt taste it and if you can get past the green smoothie look, youβve just secretly added calcium and vitamin A and C.
π Are Smoothies Healthy?
That is a question I get asked constantly! The answer is yes and no! It all depends on what you put in them. Just like anything else, be careful to not add too much high fat yogurt or sweets. Always check the recipeβs nutritional content as well.
