This realistic cleaning schedule was created and built on years of keeping our eight military rental homes clean. Pulling together 25+ years of cleaning experience, this is the most realistic daily, weekly, monthly cleaning schedule we have compiled based on apartments, townhouses and single family homes on a military base. I’m proud to say: This is the best cleaning schedule printable out there!
There’s just something about waking up to a clean house that sets the tone for the day and makes me want to be more productive! Even though I love that feeling, this is real life, and sometimes things fall through the cracks.
As with most things, having a plan and breaking things down into small chunks makes big jobs seem more manageable. If I see a little ten minute task on there, I’m way more likely to follow through because I can easily knock it out. So I put together this cleaning schedule printable in case you’re like me too!
🧹 Why This Works
Broken Up Into Days / Weeks / Months | This is broken down into daily, weekly and monthly chores to accomplish so nothing gets lost during the cleaning calendar.
Blank Version | Included is a blank version for you to fill in as you like. Each person can clean to their household chore list.
Cleaning List | The blank option allows you to make a cleaning list for seasonal projects as well. This will work great cleaning out files, drawers, closets and basements.
🧼 How to Use
This checklist is set up to be the most realistic version we could develop. We are all in the same boat with the same 24 hours in a day. It’s time to be realistic on what can get done and this is why I comically call this one the “Realistic Cleaning Schedule.”
Two Versions
First Version | The first one is already filled in for you based on the most common tasks needed to get your house clean and keep it that way. The printable is broken down into each part of the house and Daily, Weekly and Monthly columns for you to follow.
Second Version | This one is blank with columns of Daily, Weekly and Monthly for you to write in the tasks that work best for you and your home.
Once you decide which printable is best for you:
- Print it out each month and mark off tasks as you complete them.
- Print one out ONCE and put inside a plastic protective sleeve and use an erasable marker to write on the plastic sleeve. You can simply wipe off the marks and start over the next month
Both methods work great! Try them both out and see what you like for your personality!
Now that you have your home in perfect shape, make sure you don’t miss the last step! How to Make Your House Smell Amazing is a mega list of ideas to keep your home smelling clean and fresh all the time!
🧽 Expert Tips
Cleaning your house is so much easier when you can make up your own cleaning solution at home with easy-to-find ingredients that are not expensive. Making up your own batch of All Purpose Cleaning Solution allows you to be in charge of the harsh chemicals that are often found in store bought varieties. This one only has four ingredients and you most likely have them all in your home right now!
When I clean carpeted floors, I like to use the Carpet Freshener as often as I can. It keeps the carpets smelling fresh and clean while only taking a few minutes to sprinkle before I vacuum.
Bathroom Tips
I’ve compiled a few different versions of Natural Toilet Bowl Cleaners so you don’t always have to use chemicals to get your toilet spotless. Most of the items are the same as the All Purpose Cleaning Solution above and so you will use items found in most homes already.
Besides needing a constant use of Poo-Poo Spray that you can now make on your own, bathrooms should be wiped down and addressed daily. They are a heavy use part of the house that can’t be neglected. A lot of the bathroom smells hare hidden under the toilet seat when drips stay and cause the smells.
Kitchen Tips
First and foremost, don’t leave wet towels and sponges laying around to rot and smell up the kitchen. No work you have done will mask that odor.
Remember to always run the disposal with at least a little detergent, if not vinegar or lemons.
Wipe down the microwave every other day or so to keep it from holding onto food smells. Use the covers for the food to minimize how much you will need to wipe down.
Don’t leave dirty dishes in the sink for too long or they will start to smell.

Cleaning Tools
After 25+ years of cleaning my many rental homes in the military, I found that if I had vinegar, borax, essential oils and some Dawn soap, I could do most of my cleaning tasks without harmful chemicals! You know the old trick of vinegar and Dawn together, right? That is just magic!
The two things that I use ALL THE TIME that are extremely affordable are:
Microfibre Cloths – I am in love with these and if you haven’t used them before, I can’t wait for you to try them. You simply use water and get busy. Yes, you can use just water to clean a lot of things around your home without the toxicity of chemicals!
Spray Bottles – I love using glass spray bottles like these! They come in a two pack and then I fill them up with my own cleaning solution so I can keep them in each bathroom and under my kitchen sink. I don’t really love running back and forth so I try to set up my own cleaning stations in each room and having these under the sink in each room helps me stay organized.
Ok, we’ve got our lists, we have natural cleaners and we are off to make a dent into the cleanliness of our homes!
