Does your home need a serious refresh? I’ve been through the messy home saga more times than I can count! Juggling work, family, shopping, cooking, and life’s little surprises, keeping up with cleaning can be a challenge. That’s why I created this free printable deep cleaning checklist. It’s the easiest way to restore your home to its former sparkling glory. The next best thing would be a cleaning fairy godmother, but those are hard to come by!
I once spent an entire afternoon cleaning my kitchen, scrubbing every nook and cranny until it sparkled. Exhausted but proud, I collapsed on the couch, only to see a thick layer of dust coating the ceiling fan.
That’s when I realized that sometimes, a quick tidy-up just doesn’t cut it. We need to go deeper, tackle those often-forgotten areas, and give our homes a serious refresh.
Deep cleaning goes well above and beyond your regular cleaning cycle. It’s cleaning baseboards, window sills, ceiling fans, and vacuuming out the air ducts in each room. Deep cleaning isn’t typically something that’s done more than 1-2 times per year in most homes, but it’s an important process to keep your home clean, smelling great, and healthy.
✨ Room-By-Room Deep Cleaning Checklist
Every time I do a thorough deep cleaning, I am surprised at how much stuff I end up cleaning. How on earth is it possible that so much dirt accumulates so fast?
Well, let me tell you that having a solid schedule is the cure for the feeling of overwhelm when it comes to deep cleaning. Here’s a breakdown of what you need to be cleaning in every single room in your home + a special Everywhere section with general tasks, and another one for Closets.
How To Deep Clean The Kitchen
Here are the areas in your kitchen that you need to tackle for a thorough deep cleaning. If you’re like my family, we spend most of our time in the kitchen. Seriously. We spend more time here than even in the living room!
- Wipe down countertops & backsplash
- Wipe down cabinets
- Deep clean microwave
- Wipe appliances
- Deep clean stovetop & oven
- Scrub & disinfect sink and faucet
- Clean garbage disposal
- Discard expired food in pantry, fridge, and freezer
- Clean & organize Pantry

How To Deep Clean The Bathroom
After the kitchen, the bathroom is the next room I prioritize. The room where we primp and pamper needs the occasional thorough scrub so don’t forget to clean these items during your next bathroom deep cleaning!
- Scrub sink & countertops
- Scrub bathtub & tile walls
- Deep clean & polish faucets
- Scrub toilet
- Wipe down mirrors & cabinets
- Clean & organize inside cabinets and drawers
- Wash/clean shower curtain
- Wash rugs
- Empty trash
- Wash garbage can
How To Deep Clean Your Living Room
Cleaning the heart of the home is not as labor-intensive as the kitchen or bathroom. But still, every living room has some trouble spots and this free printable deep cleaning checklist will help you restore your haven of relaxation to its former glory.
- Wash blankets, pillow covers, and slipcovers
- Dust & polish tabletops
- Dust electronics
- Dust & polish mantel, shelves, and picture frames
- Vacuum drapes with dedicated attachment
- Vacuum & wipe chairs and sofas
- Dust & polish all furniture and light fixtures
- Clean & organize media cabinet
How To Deep Clean Bedrooms
There were times in my life when the never-ending laundry pile and random things on the floor became completely normal. It’s way too easy to let things get out of control. Luckily, with this schedule, anyone can conquer the chaos and turn those bedrooms into the restful retreats they should be.
- Vacuum/wash drapes
- Wash pillows & bedding
- Dust & polish furniture
- Clean under the bed
- Vacuum drapes with dedicated attachment
- Flip & rotate mattress
How To Deep Clean The Entryway
This is the area of the house that gets the most traffic and also the first one guests see when they visit. It can really “set the mood” for the entire home. I have to admit I get this intense feeling of inner peace when I come back home and the entryway is all neat and organized. And it’ll make a good first impression on your guests too!
- Dust & polish furniture
- Vacuum & clean welcome mat
- Wipe down baseboards
- Organize shoes & coats
How To Deep Clean Your Dining Room
Cleaning this room is easy and simple to do. I wish I could redesign my house as the last thing I use my dining room for is…well…dining! The table is a homework desk, my bill-paying desk, and if I am lucky, relatively free of clutter. Regardless, make sure the following items are included in your deep cleaning checklist.
- Dust blinds & ceiling fans
- Dust & polish furniture, tables & chairs
- Clean and organize inside cabinets & drawers
- Polish silver
- Vacuum & wash rugs
How To Deep Clean Your Office
My husband’s job is encouraging more and more telework. They are calling it a “distributed workforce” but it means that he spends a lot of his day in his office, eating snacks, drinking, and making a mess (and working too, I suppose!). The schedule below is how I make sure his workspace is deep cleaned periodically to keep the work environment healthy.
- Dust desk, shelves & furniture
- Dust & disinfect electronics
- Dust vents
- Organize books & supplies
- Organize cabinets & drawers
How To Deep Clean Your Garage
I always thought of the garage as perpetually “dirty.” It has an unfinished concrete floor and attracts dirt, leaves, dust, oil, etc. But, we enter the house through the garage very often. So, if the garage is clean, then we won’t track as much dirt into the home. Think of it as your first line of cleaning defense!
- Scrub floors & clean out any oil spills
- Clean out cars
- Organize tools
- Organize toys & sporting equipment
- Organize any other items in bins
How To Deep Clean Your Laundry Room
This room always gets overlooked. Which is silly, as that is where you clean your clothes. Why do that in a room that is dirty? It just doesn’t make sense. So, make sure you follow the checklist to get your laundry room deep cleaned.
- Wipe down washer & dryer
- Wipe down shelves & cabinets
- Organize cleaning supplies & replace expired items
- Run cleaning cycle in washing machine
- Clean out dryer vents & duct
How To Deep Clean Your Closets
The free printable deep cleaning checklist has a section dedicated to closets. It makes sense, as we have them in most of the rooms, and the entryway. I actually like to dedicate a day just to organizing and cleaning the closets.
In this area, there’s no way you can achieve a deep clean without sorting your stuff and prepping the items you don’t need anymore for donating or throwing away.
- Donate/throw away old or unused clothes
- Dust shelves
- Organize & sort wardrobe
Whole-House Deep Cleaning Tasks
Now that you’ve tackled those room-specific deep-cleaning missions, it’s time to zoom out and give your whole house some love! These ‘everywhere’ tasks are the finishing touches that bring it all together.
For the sake of not dirtying what you already cleaned, I suggest you work your way from top to bottom. Nobody wants to re-clean those freshly mopped floors, am I right?
- Dust ceiling & corners of room
- Clean light fixtures
- Dust blinds & window sills
- Wash windows and mirrors
- Polish wood floors
- Wipe down light switches, doors, and doorknobs
- Wipe down baseboards
- Sweep/mop/vacuum floors & rugs
- Steam clean carpets
- Replace batteries in smoke/CO2 detectors
- Replace air filters
