Oh, the joys of cleaning! I used to think a spotless house was a myth, something only those spotless home decor magazine people could achieve. But then I discovered the power of a good cleaning schedule, and let me tell you, it’s a game-changer! This free printable weekly cleaning checklist made it so much easier to keep my home looking its best without spending all my free time scrubbing and polishing.
Listen, cleaning isn’t exactly the most exciting activity. But that’s not what makes it seemingly difficult to tackle. It’s the lack of a plan.
There are some rooms I pick up each day. I can’t stand keeping dirty dishes in the sink or on the counter, so I tidy up the kitchen each night before bed. However, I save the bigger kitchen cleaning tasks to a weekly schedule when I have more time to devote.
If you’re looking for a more frequent cleaning schedule, check out my free printable daily cleaning checklist. It’s perfect for those who like to tackle those chores a little bit each day.
As great as it is to have a daily cleaning routine, there are still some things you need to do weekly. And let’s face it: not all of us are daily cleaners. Some will always prefer a weekly cleaning schedule, and there’s nothing wrong with that!
✨ Weekly Cleaning Checklist
The reason that some people clean weekly (me included) is that it’s the only time that they have to do so. I save the weekly cleaning for Saturday morning when we are all off work and can devote a couple of hours. This is a great time to “divide and conquer” and get the whole family involved. I use this checklist to make sure everyone knows their assigned tasks.
📌This free printable set bundles 2 sheets: a prefilled weekly cleaning schedule (the one shown above), and a blank, editable weekly cleaning checklist so you can create your own routine (we’ll discuss this a bit later).
Even this prefilled version has a blank Other section, where you can write down additional tasks.
As you can see, this cleaning printable breaks it down per room in your house. Here are the areas of your home that are included for cleaning weekly:
Kitchen Cleaning Schedule
The kitchen is always the most work (assuming you’re actually using it). Stick to your weekly cleaning routine and these tasks will become less intensive. Periodic maintenance works wonders!
💡Tip: When you get to your fridge and freezer cleaning you can also grab my free kitchen organization binder which includes printable inventories for the fridge and freezer. It’s really nice to have these lists: meal planning is much easier, and you can also make sure you use the food before it goes bad or expires.
- Clean stove/cooktop
- Wipe down all appliances
- Throw away expired food
- Wipe down fridge & freezer
- Clean sink & countertops
- Sweep & mop floor
Bathroom Cleaning Schedule
Between the toothpaste splatters and the occasional shower serenade, the bathroom can also get a little grimy. However, it’s pretty easy to clean if you’re doing it weekly.
- Clean & disinfect toilet
- Scrub shower & bathtub
- Throw away empty or expired products
- Wash bath rugs & toilet lid cover
- Clean sinks, mirrors, & countertops
- Sweep & mop floor
Bedroom Cleaning Schedule
If there’s one thing I hate, it’s certainly the sight of a bedroom with clothes scattered everywhere, dust bunnies multiplying under the bed, and who knows what’s lurking in the closet!
The good news is that the tasks below won’t feel like too much if you’re actually following a weekly cleaning schedule. Also, encourage your family to participate – you don’t have to do everything alone.
- Dust surfaces, blinds, lamps & lamp shades
- Declutter
- Tidy up closets & drawers
- Change bed sheets
- Wipe down mirrors & windows
- Vacuum floor
Living Areas Cleaning Schedule
The main problem of living areas that see a lot of action is the accumulation of clutter and dust. Truth be told, it’s a lot less elbow grease than cleaning the kitchen or the bathroom.
I like to do some daily decluttering so when I do the weekly cleaning, I focus more on dusting and vacuuming.
- Declutter
- Straighten cabinets & shelves
- Dust furniture, lamps & lampshades
- Dust electronics
- Wipe down windows & blinds
- Vacuum/sweep & mop floor
Outdoor Cleaning Schedule
Our outdoor spaces deserve some TLC too, you know. This free printable weekly cleaning checklist will help you tackle those often forgotten areas like the garage, porch, and patio. And hey, if you’re feeling really ambitious, you can even add “mow the lawn” and “wash the car” to the list!
- Sweep & organize garage
- Sweep porch & patio
- Mow lawn & clean out weed beds
- Clean cars inside & out
If you skipped the weekly cleaning schedule a few times, or your home needs a more thorough cleaning, check out my free printable monthly cleaning checklist. You’ll have all the important cleaning chores in a single place so you can get work done in an organized fashion.
🧽 Editable Weekly Cleaning Schedule
If you’ve found the cleaning routine from the prefilled checklist useful, that’s amazing! But if yours looks a bit different and you need a full revamp, use the editable cleaning schedule instead.
📌How To Edit – It’s packed in the same file, and if you open it with a PDF reader, it will let you fill in the fields highlighted in blue. The blue doesn’t print, it’s just there so you know what’s editable.
Once you finish entering your tasks, send the file to the printer. Your weekly custom cleaning routine is ready!
📑 How To Use
👉I like to place these handy sheets and other related printables in a cleaning binder. It’s really practical to have all of them in a single place.
I also like to keep this free printable cleaning flowchart in my cleaning binder. It’s a great way to visualize the cleaning process and stay on track with those weekly chores.
👉I also keep just one that’s laminated. I reuse it every week with a dry-erase marker. So convenient!
👉But wait, there’s more! I did two more laminated copies. One for my husband, and one for my son. We pick our areas to clean and focus just on those tasks. These sheets are reusable for a long time. A hard-cover binder will help keep them nice and straight for even longer.
💡Tip: Don’t forget to get those kiddos involved! My free printable kids’ cleaning checklist is a fun way to teach kids responsibility and turn chores into a less dreadful experience.
