My favorite part of Thanksgiving is having everyone together, but it can be tricky to get all the different age groups interacting. These free printable Thanksgiving conversation starters are fantastic for bridging that gap between grandparents and grandkids. It’s so much fun to hear the different answers and learn something new about family members!

Let’s be honest, sometimes family gatherings need a little help to keep the conversation light, fun, and safely away from certain topics! I designed these Thanksgiving Conversation Starters as a playful way to guide the discussion toward happy memories and silly ideas.

So download this to get a conversation going and have a blast this holiday season – they’re great for both kids and adults!

🍂💬 Thanksgiving Conversation Starters

The whole point of this printable set is to make our holiday gatherings extra special. So I gathered some of my favorite conversation prompts – there are 2 pages with 8 prompts per sheet.

It’s a fun mix, from Thanksgiving favorites to thoughtful prompts to get everyone sharing and enjoy a positive, heartwarming talk.

I even included a pretty cover page. This one doesn’t serve a specific function, but I love pretty, and I hope you do too!

Here’s a sneak peek at all the questions included in the set:

🔸What is your favorite Thanksgiving memory?

🔸What is your number one favorite thing about Thanksgiving?

🔸Who made a positive impact on your life recently?

🔸What is your favorite family tradition?

🔸What is your favorite Thanksgiving smell?

🔸What is your favorite Thanksgiving dessert?

🔸What is your favorite Thanksgiving food?

🔸If you could invite anyone for Thanksgiving dinner, who would it be and why?

🔸What are you most thankful for this year?

🔸What makes your family special?

🔸Someone younger than you that you are thankful for?

🔸Someone older than you that you are thankful for?

🔸Name three things that you associate with Thanksgiving.

🔸Give a compliment to the person on your right.

🔸Give a compliment to the person on your left.

🔸What is your favorite thing about the holidays?

👨‍👩‍👧 Fun Ways To Use The Conversation Starters

👉Dinner Conversation | Let each member of the family grab a card out of a bowl and read the question and then answer. This is a fun way to naturally get a conversation flowing.

After the person answers, pass the cards to the next person and let them choose one.

👉Play A Game | One person grabs a card and then picks a person to answer it. Have them read the card out loud. Then the person they pick has to answer. It is a way to get more interaction with each other.

If you have little kids who are learning to read, just have an adult help them out!

👉Everyone Answers The Question | Have one person read the question and then every member has to answer with a unique answer.

This works great if you have a smaller group of people!

🖨️Download & Printing Instructions

  2. Save the PDF to your device, and open it with the free Adobe Reader, or any other PDF reader app.
  3. Print off the conversation starters for kids and adults.
  4. Turn printer on and just print off the 3 pages.
  5. Cut out the conversation cards.
  6. Enjoy getting to know each other more!

📌Tip: If you are worried about the cards getting torn, laminate them so you can use them over and over again.

🥧 Celebrate A Virtual Thanksgiving

If you are away from your family, you can still celebrate. Create a virtual Thanksgiving get-together so you can still be with your loved ones.

  • Set up an Online Zoom meeting to get together and say hello. These conversation starters will make the celebration more fun and relaxed.
  • Send Thanksgiving care packages to your loved ones, to let them know you are with them.
  • Plan your Thanksgiving menu so that all your family will enjoy the same festive feast. Try making your aunt’s favorite cranberry recipe to see if you can make it taste like hers. Even though you are not together, Thanksgiving can be memorable with the favorite dishes you know and love.

There are so many ways to make this holiday just as special as any holiday in the past. You just have to look at it with new eyes and get a little creative.
