❗ Expert Tips

  • Make sure to refrigerate the dough, it needs to chill or it will not roll or cook properly.
  • Roll out the dough in an even layer.
  • Cut smaller-sized crackers so you get a nice even cook.
  • Spritz the crackers with oil and then add seasoning if you want to flavor your crackers with other spices.
  • The hole in the center allows for the crackers to not puff up as much when cooked.

Easy Homemade Crackers

Recipe FAQ

Why is there a hole in the center of Cheez Its?

Cheese crackers can swell up when they are baked or in this case, air fried. The hole helps to prevent the crackers from puffing up too much as it cooks.

How to store homemade cheddar crackers?

If you don’t eat all the crackers right away, allow them to fully cool. Then store in an airtight container or sealable bag. The cheese crackers will store for 5-7 days.

How to add seasonings to cheese crackers?

Spritz the crackers lightly with oil, then sprinkle with the seasoning you want. Air fry just as you would with the classic crackers.

Can I use pre-shredded cheese for Cheez It crackers?

Pre-shredded cheese has some extra starches to prevent it from sticking. You will find it is best to use block cheese that you shred yourself. If you do use pre-shredded cheese, you will find the texture will be off a bit.

Can I make these cheese crackers gluten free?

Yes. Reach for Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free blend and do a 1 for 1 ratio. Then whip up as normal It will be a great alternative if you are on the gluten free diet.

Notes

Air Fryer Choice: You can use any style of air fryer you own. Just follow the cooking time and temperature guidelines above.
Hole in Center: Cheese crackers can swell up when they are cooked. The hole helps to prevent the crackers from puffing up too much as it cooks. Make sure to poke a hole in the center, or it will puff up as it cooks.
Storage: Store them in an airtight container.
Adding Spices: Consider adding different spices to this recipe. We’ve done taco seasoning and Hidden Valley Ranch a lot. Everything Bagel seasoning would be great on these as well.
Don’t Buy Pre-Shredded Cheese: Pre-shredded cheese has some extra starches to prevent the sliced cheese from sticking. You will find it is best to use block cheese that you shred yourself. If you have a food processor that has the attachment, this can be done in about 1 minute. Store extra shredded cheese in a sealed bag in the refrigerator.  If you do pre-shredded cheese you will find the texture will be off a bit.
Gluten Free Option: Reach for Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free blend and do a 1 for 1 ratio. Then whip up as you would in this recipe. It will be a great alternative if you are on the gluten free diet.

We live overseas and they don’t sell any kind of cheese crackers here, so I was so excited to find this recipe! My kids love it and it satisfies my cravings for Goldfish or Cheez-its. I do add an additional 2-3 minutes of time in the airfryer.

I tried to use your site, but it is impossible! All you can see is giant ads. I can barely see any portion of the recipe. The only way to see it is to go to a print screen. I won’t be back.
