Homemade Frozen Dog Treats are a huge hit with our pup! He loves cooling down with these and they couldn’t be easier to make! You only need two ingredients – apples and chicken broth. Once you make them once or twice, you will not go back to the treats at the pet shop!
This recipe makes a ton – about 25 frozen dog treats in lidded jello shot containers, but you can easily freeze them in ice cube trays and just transfer them to a freezer bag later.
We buy a 2 lb package of sliced apples at Sam’s Club and we had already used some up, so I don’t have an exact measurement on the apples, but ½ – one pound is my best guess.
🐕 Why This Recipe Works
Your Doggie Will Love Them | If you want to see one happy pup, give them a special dog treat. They are going to give you lots of wet, sloppy kisses!
Healthier | Because you make the treats yourself, you know (and feel good about) the ingredients that are in them.
Cheap | You only need two ingredients and they are so inexpensive to make. They are much cheaper than pre-packaged treats. $6 for about 25 two-ounce containers, making these about 25¢ each!
🐶 Ingredients
You probably have these ingredients in your pantry!
Apple Slices | Most dogs love the sweetness of apples. They also give the treats a little bit of a crunch too.
Chicken Broth | Anything with chicken broth is sure to make your pup happy. You could also use beef or veggie broth too.
🍎 Instructions
Step One: Chop all of the apples into bite-sized pieces. You don’t want them too big in case you have a dog that eats super fast or they may choke. Add the apples to the containers.
Step Two: Pour in the broth to the containers you are using. Be sure to leave a little bit of space at the top so you have room for expansion. Freeze for four hours and take out to the dog park or a hot day as needed.
Recipe FAQs
Since I’m trying to keep our dog as healthy a can be, I went out to research what other foods can I feed my dog? I came across this awesome site that lists a lot of great ideas for us!

What surprised us was that we shouldn’t feed dogs bread…how many times have we given dogs that last bit of sandwich? Guilty. Now I won’t and my dog will be healthier! The other one was cheese in moderation. Another one that I was guilty of giving out freely!
You don’t have to worry about ingredients like antibiotics, additives, or even mold that can be found in commercially prepared products. While there are some safe products you can buy, it’s a good idea to do some research before doing so.
