Have you ever driven through a fast-food place for breakfast and thought, “I’d like to have hash browns like these at home?” Well, now you can, and you don’t even need a deep fryer to make it happen. Make crispy, delicious Air Fryer Hash Brown Patties in about ten minutes.
🍽️ Why This Works
Fast and easy | Air Fryer Frozen Hash Brown Patties go from frozen to fabulous in about ten minutes. That means you can whip up some scrambled eggs on the stovetop, finish off some breakfast sausage in the air fryer and have a beautiful breakfast on the table in fifteen minutes.
The perfect crunch | The typical breakfast meal is crying out for a little crunch or textural change. No one wants every single food they eat to be soft and mushy. Hash Browns are the perfect way to add a little crunch to your morning.
Very filling | Potatoes are starch and stay with you longer than the typical carb so hash browns are the perfect food to fit in between pancakes and proteins and fill up hungry bellies for long mornings.
Ingredients
Frozen Hashbrown Patties – You can make four at a time in the air fryer and may be able to fit even more if you have a stackable tray. Look for large packages of hashbrowns at your local warehouse store (e.g. Costco or Sam’s Club) for great prices!
⏲️ Equipment and Tools
Air Fryer. Use a basket air fryer or a tray air fryer to cook all of your favorite frozen prepared foods super fast and make so many delicious meals. We love ours and use it weekly.
Stackable Trays. Increase the capacity of your air fryer with these stackable trays. These are an ingenious idea!
🔥 Instructions
Step One: Heat the air fryer to 375ºF and cook the hashbrowns for 10 minutes. You may want to flip the hashbrown patties halfway through the cooking time but it is not strictly necessary.
Step Two: Add an additional 2-3 minutes to get them extra crispy. If you prefer them softer, decrease the cooking time by 2-3 minutes and check frequently to get the doneness you love.
❗ Expert Tips
Add a little salt to the hashbrowns as they come out of the air fryer unless they were pre-seasoned.
Oftentimes, frozen potatoes will come with cooking oil already applied. However, if you find that your favorite brand does not crisp up the way you want or seem extra dry, try spritzing them with a high heat oil such as olive oil or coconut oil before putting them in the air fryer next time. This also helps your seasoning stick.
This recipe is for a basket-style air fryer. If you have a tray-style air fryer or a convection oven, you may need to adjust the cooking times accordingly.
If you plan to make subsequent batches of hashbrown patties in the air fryer, you may need to reduce the cooking time. Check them before ten minutes because a really hot air fryer cooks faster.
Storage
I know you are thinking “Should I really keep the leftovers of these air fryer hash browns? And the answer is yes. Yes, you should. Tomorrow or the next day, you can break them up in a skillet and scramble them with eggs and breakfast meat or diced ham for a delicious hot breakfast hash. It’s worth saving those!
Keep the leftovers in a sealed freezer-quality zipper bag in the refrigerator for a few days.
Meal Prep
Stock up on hash brown patties when they go on sale, or purchase them in bulk at your local warehouse store. One of the best things about these is they stay frozen until you are ready to put them in the air fryer so you don’t have to stock up on potatoes only to have them go bad on the counter before your meal.
Substitutions
If you can’t find the frozen hash brown patties, you can buy tater tots or tater crowns and cook them in the same way. You will need to shake the basket halfway through cooking and check frequently to gauge the time.
Serving Suggestions
Serve with ketchup, honey, honey mustard, or ranch sauce for dipping. Hot sauce is a fun addition you might not have thought of.
Mix things up and serve hash browns with syrup for a sweet little potato cake.
Use the air fryer frozen hash brown patties as a base for scrambled eggs, sunny side up eggs, or omelets.
Planning a special brunch? Add some Air Fryer Apple Roses {40 Minutes}.
Try different seasonings! You can mix things up a bit using Italian seasoning, a garlic herb seasoning mixture, or your favorite dry rub or french fry seasoning. Sprinkle some of the seasoning on both sides of the hash brown patties before placing them in the air fryer.
You do not have to use these strictly for breakfast either! I have family members who would eat them with every meal, and they make a great afternoon snack too.

Using an air fryer instead of frying hash browns in grease will pretty much eliminate the problem of sogginess.
No. Hash browns do not need to be thawed to cook in the air fryer and in fact cooking them from frozen will help prevent sogginess.
