❗ Expert Tips
Old fashioned oats are best for this recipe. Quick oats and steel cut oats do not work well as their textures don’t incorporate well into the granola.
Allow the granola to dry completely or it will become soggy.
Make sure to stir the granola as it air fries or it may burn.
🌾 Variations
- Mix in chocolate chips or even peanut butter chips to the granola once cooked. If you do it earlier, they will melt.
- Change up the spices used. This will change the flavor significantly! For Pumpkin Spice, add in one teaspoon in place of the cinnamon and you will have Pumpkin Spiced Granola. For the Apple Pie Spiced version, add in one tsp of apple pie spices.
- Add in dried fruit, different nuts, etc.
Recipe FAQ
Granola can be stored in an airtight container. If you store the granola in the refrigerator, it may soften. So, make sure to use an airtight container. Also, keep it in a dark, cool place like the pantry.
Place your granola in a freezer bag or airtight container. You can store granola in the freezer for 3-6 months depending on the container you freeze it in. Then when you are ready to use, remove and let it come to room temperature. If you take it out and it isn’t 100% crispy, you can put it in the Air Fryer or oven for a bit to crisp it back up. For the Air Fryer, heat up to 250 again and heat up 5-7 minutes, stirring often. It may take even less if there is just a little moisture. If you seal the bag well, you should not have to do this though.
If you want to add fruit into granola, you will want to mix it in once the granola is cooked and cooled. Then just add in your dried fruit. Raisins, cranberries, and dried blueberries all are great options.
Simply spread the granola out and heat it again. Whether you use an air fryer or place it in the oven, it will help to pull out excess moisture and crisp up the granola. Make sure that you store the granola in a sealed container that won’t suck in outside air.
It keeps the granola crispy. If you don’t have any, you can substitute olive oil but it may give off a slight savory flavor.
There is still too much moisture in the oats and it will continue to need to be cooked. Put it back in the fryer and keep cooking it and checking ever three minutes or so. Remember to stir.
