📅 Calendar Planning Hacks For An Awesome August
Planning is not about cramming every square inch of your calendar with endless to-dos. It’s about creating an easy to navigate roadmap, and making sure there’s still some room for rest and relaxation.
The strategies below really work for me – feel free to steal them. And also let me know what hacks are you using to stay organized!
👉 Color-Code Your Life
Figuring out what a note is about at a glance is best done with color coding. You’ll know what kind of task or event it is even before you read it!
Here’s the color-coding system I use:
Color | Category |
---|---|
🔵Blue | Work deadlines and meetings |
🟢Green | Family activities |
🔴Red | Important events |
🟠Orange | Errands and chores |
🟡Yellow | Social commitments |
🟣Purple | Self-care |
👉 Symbols to the Rescue
The daily space available in a monthly calendar is pretty scarce. Sometimes it’s so much more efficient to use a symbol – it takes less space and it’s also a lot easier to notice. Here are a few of my favorites:
Symbol | Meaning |
---|---|
⭐Stars | Birthdays |
❤️Hearts | Anniversaries |
‼️Exclamation points | Important deadlines |
💲Dollar signs | Bill payments and other purchases |
💡Lightbulbs | Bright ideas |
✔️Checkmarks | Completed tasks |
✈️Airplanes | Travel plans |
🎵Music notes | Concerts and performances |
🙂Smiley faces | Fun outings |
📝 Expand Your Plans
Since monthly calendars provide a limited amount of space for each day, I use this free printable weekly planner to create more detailed plans. Then, I go in a bit further with my free printable daily planner.
They give me the space to write down all the important (and less important) details of my busy life.
🔔 Use Reminders
I usually check my calendars in the morning and add some new to-dos in the evening. I have to admit it’s pretty difficult to go over them several times a day.
And that’s why I set reminders for everything important and time sensitive! Whether it’s a phone alert, a sticky note, or a good old-fashioned reminder app, I make sure I have a backup system in place.
✨ Things To Do in August
If you didn’t have the time for a vacation yet, don’t fret….there’s still time. The days are still long and the weather is warm and you can make the most of them even with a last-minute getaway.
Of course, there are other things to do in August and my cute free monthly calendars will help you plan it all!
🏖️ Vacation Vibes
Me and my husband always try to squeeze in one last vacation before the summer ends. Even if it’s just for a weekend.
I use this free printable travel binder to organize everything. It helps me compare destinations, create an itinerary and a daily travel plan, all while making sure I don’t exceed my budget.

We also really love hiking and camping. There’s nothing as relaxing as enjoying nature during summer, right? This free camping checklist printable is my secret to making sure I have all the gear I need. You really don’t want to find out you forgot your flashlight when you’re in the middle of the woods, trust me!
📚 Back-to-School Bonanza
The back to school season might put you under a lot of stress for the first few years until you get the hang of it. Well, I’ve been through it all and preparing ahead of time is probably the best thing you can do to avoid any last-minute anxiety.
This free printable back-to-school checklist makes it super easy to stock up on school supplies. There’s also a checklist for all the tasks that need to be done before the new school year starts. Things like scheduling doctor visits and haircuts, transitioning to the school routine, preparing clothes and everything else. It’s so much easier when you have a plan!
And let’s not forget about the precious memories we get on the first day of school. these cute free printable first-day-of-school signs will let you capture the best photos of your kids. Every time I look at them my heart melts!
🍅 Canning Craze
Do you have a bountiful garden or an awesome farmer’s market nearby? August is the best time to make the most of those delicious summer fruits and veggies. Canning is easy and totally worth it.

In fact, the most important thing is to keep your homemade goodies organized. I use these free printable and editable canning labels to sort them. This way I know exactly what each jar holds and when it was made.
🥳 Just for Fun
This year I made it a mission to enjoy what each month has to offer – because life’s too short to be serious all the time!
Well, August is packed with fun holidays and events. Sink your teeth in a juicy slice of watermelon on National Watermelon Day, or give your feline friend some extra cuddles on International Cat Day. These lesser-known celebrations can be more entertaining than you can imagine!
Let’s keep the conversation flowing! What are your favorite ways to use a monthly calendar? Share your favorite calendar hacks, strategies, and organizational wins. Us planning enthusiasts need to stick together! 🤓
