Meal Planners

Studies have shown that we all will save money if we simply plan meals. That can be anything from just planning dinners alone or planning all 21 meals for the week! No matter how you get started meal planning, these tools are going to help you jump start into success!!

How to Start Meal Planning

  1. Begin each week of meal planning by pulling out your personal/family calendar to see what is going on for the upcoming week. There is no sense in planning a 90 minute meal when you have 20 minutes on Tuesday to get in and of the door until 9pm.
  2. Set realistic expectations for each night. Be honest with yourself, your family and your amount of actual time to execute a meal. Then place what is feasible in each night.
  3. Make a grocery list. There are several here to help you as it is more fun to work off of a fun paper than the back of an envelope.
  4. Meal prep for about 20-30 minutes when you return home from grocery shopping to get the week in order.

***When you are just starting out, the most successful way to achieve this is going to be by picking one meal per day to prep and once you have that under control-move on to doing 2 meals/day meal prepping. If you go from never meal prepping to “I’m going to meal prep every meal from now on!” It will lead to disaster!

Meal Planner via Savor and Savvy This is a great little meal planner that you can use each week or keep and recycle if you like to glean ideas for the future. The little shopping list is so helpful to keep everything straight on one page.
Grocery Comparison  via Savor and Savvy This tool is vital when you want to save money and wonder where all your money goes! Take the time to comparison shop your grocery stores so you know where to save your hard earned dollars. Don’t just assume that a certain grocery store is the cheapest. I walk you through my grocery comparison and the surprises that came from it all!

I love how she shows you how to laminate your to do list and meal planner to fit into your daytimer/planner. Take these awesome tips and adapt them to each of the ideas here! She has added places for you to add meals for all 21 meals a week, a kitchen to-do list and a section to add if you have grocery flyers with sale items! As with the other menu planners, check out laminating them or keeping them in a binder for inspiration for another month! Mark off what works and doesn’t work to help you later!
Printable Shopping Lists via Simplee Thrifty-this is a gorgeous and extremely thorough shopping/budgeting packet of 3 free printables.
