The twelfth month of the year brings Christmas and New Year’s Eve, among other major holidays. It’s not called the holiday season for nothing!
Our printable monthly calendars don’t include public holidays. However, you’ll find the most important dates below. This way, you can add the ones you find meaningful and create your own holiday calendar.
Winter Solstice
Winter solstice is an astronomical phenomenon that marks the shortest day and longest night of the year. In 2023 it occurs on Tuesday, December 21st.
Christmas Eve
The day before Christmas Day is known as Christmas Eve. Most businesses try to close early on this day so everyone can get home in time to celebrate with their families.
Hanging Christmas decorations, spending time with friends and family, and singing Christmas carols are customary ways of celebrating this day. In 2023, Christmas Eve takes place on Sunday, December 24th.
Christmas Day
This is the only federal holiday in December 2023. New Year’s Day is the next federal holiday and it takes place on Monday, January 1st 2024.

The full moon in December is called the Cold Moon. In 2023, this lunar phase is reached on Wednesday, December 27th.
New Year’s Eve

- Sagittarius and Capricorn are the zodiac signs for the 12th month f the year.
- In the Northern Hemisphere, December is the month with the shortest days, which also makes it the darkest month. In northern areas such as Alaska, Siberia and the Canadian territories, the sun never rises in December.
