The eleventh month of the year is keeping most of us busy with day-to-day life but also preparations for Thanksgiving day.
Here are all the public holidays and other important dates for November 2023.
End Of Daylight Saving Time
In the United States of America, daylight saving time starts on the second Sunday in March, when the clock is set forward by one hour. On the first Sunday in November, daylight saving time ends at 2:00 A.M. local time.
Election Day
This is an annual date set by law for general elections of public officials in the U.S.
Election Day always takes place on the Tuesday next after the first Monday in the month of November which occurs between November 2nd and November 8th.
Black Friday & Cyber Monday
While not a holiday, Black Friday is definitely a special day. In the U.S.A., it takes place the Friday after Thanksgiving. This year, Black Friday falls on Friday, November 24th.
On this day, stores compete to provide customers with high discounts and it marks the start of the Christmas shopping season.
Cyber Monday is another important shopping event that takes place the Monday after Thanksgiving. For 2023, this falls on Monday, November 27th. In some years, Cyber Monday takes place in December.
It is the biggest online shopping event of the year and focuses on discounts for smaller appliances, clothes, and electronics.
Veteran’s Day
Originally called Armistice Day, Veteran’s Day is a federal holiday in the United States of America that takes place every year on November 11th. In 2023 this falls on a Saturday.
This day celebrates military veterans of the United States Army. Its origins stem from World War I which ended in 1918, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
Thanksgiving Day
Thanksgiving is a national holiday in the USA celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November. In 2023, Thanksgiving falls on November 23rd.
Traditionally, it is celebrated by sharing a meal with friends and family, expressing gratitude for the current year’s blessings, and attending church services.

- November was the ninth month in the 10-month Roman calendar. Its name comes from the Latin “Novem” which translates into “nine. Even after January and February were added to the calendar of Romulus, November kept its name.
- November’s birthstones are topaz and citrine. Both come in a huge assortment of colors to match any style or preference.
- The chrysanthemum is November’s birth flower, symbolizing optimism, joy, and longevity. The peony is also a November birth flower, although less recognized than the chrysanthemum.
- November’s zodiac signs are Scorpio and Sagittarius.
- Election Day takes place in November because it is outside of planting, growing, and harvest seasons when farmers are busiest. This way everyone was able to vote!
- The full moon in November is called “Beaver Moon”.
